My husband and I have been wanting to try the Downstairs Cellar at Fat Canary for some time now. Last night we decided to try and we were throughly impressed. The ambiance was nice. Our waitress was very kind and provided recommendations that were all good. I feel bad because I cannot remember her name (but her make up was flawless! ). Our drinks were so good. The bartender knows what she is doing! The food was absolutely delicious. There was not one complaint about any thing we had. I had the tenderloin, with grilled asparagus, potato wedges, and blue cheese butter. My tenderloin was cooked to perfection. The grilled asparagus was flavorful and delicious. The potato wedges were welled seasoned, and the blue cheese butter went very well with the tenderloin. My husband had the Wagyu burger. It was one of the best burgers we have ever had! We really enjoyed our dinner and the service. I highly recommend visiting the Downstairs Cellar at Fat Canary.

My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful evening and dinner at Fat Canary. The food is well prepared, it looks nice and the taste is fantastic. The reservation and seating seems unique but maybe I just don't get out to restaurants like this often. Make sure you have a reservation. Plan on 100 per person without drinks.

I’m a tourist in Colonial Williamsburg. I’ve googled several websites for “best seafood”. I am stunned & shocked at the sub-par restaurants that show up on the same list as Fat Canary - and they are nowhere nohow in the same caliber as Fat Canary. If you’re not a foodie, have at it - plenty of sub-par restaurants in the area (we’ve eaten at 2 of them). On the other hand, if you not only like, but actually appreciate excellent ingredients, combined with an excellent chef and staff, Fat Canary is the place for you! Just finished phenomenal meal served by a phenomenal staff and am very grateful. Had the grilled foie gras with a glass of Pouilly Fuisse, and then enjoyed the special Halibut in an amazing seafood stock with all kinds of beautiful vegetables. So grateful to have come across this place!!

Always a great time; the food, atmosphere, and service are top-notch.

We went to Fat Canary to celebrate my 26th birthday as a party of 6 people and we were impressed by everething there!! The food was divine! You cannot find such amazing food at many places in Williamsburg or nearby cities. We tried the Duck Breast, the Ribs dish, and the Beef Steak. All the meat just melted in your mouth and was so flavorful and delicious! The servers were great and paid attention to all the details. The atmosphere was amazing! I was really really impressed and definitely want to come back there many times!

Drove 60 miles out of my way for a late dinner at the bar. Yes it is that good and consistently so!

We set up a small 5x course tasting menu for our son's birthday, who's in the area for training. This is his review: It was phenomenal. Expectations were exceeded. The tasting menu was well balanced and the pairings were spot on. My friends enjoyed it thoroughly. Spencer, our waiter was very funny and very personable, he did a very good job giving us the run down on each course and pairing. The sous chef, Aaron, was also very friendly and made sure we enjoyed each course. All around an unforgettable experience. Truly, unforgettable, the courses were spectacular, each in their own way.

We've enjoyed the Fat Canary several times, reserving a tables at the peak of the Christmas holiday season. You can make reservations as far out as 62 days, and the seating capacity is quite limited. It's a small restaurant nestled in the Old Williamsburg shopping area, so the ambience is not great, but most seats offer a view of the well-lit kitchen with the expert chefs busily preparing exceptional cuisine for the discerning guests. I don't usually add pics for my reviews, but here are some from our December '24 visit, and believe you me everything was exquisite and elicited oohs and aahs and smiles and adulation from each of our dining foursome. Even the drinks and appetizers were beyond reproach. There was Crispy Oysters; small, tender and super crispy and sweet, crusty Italian bread still warm, filet with stacked roasted potatoes, succulent rockfish, and seared sea scallops, all prepared to perfection and served simultaneously and very hot. Our waitress was informed, competent, kind, and timely in her presence. The meal was fabulous, among the best I have ever experienced anywhere. We will make our reservation for next year as soon as they will allow it. It's over an hour away from us, but we continue to hold it in such high esteem that it remains a must-do for several years running now, with no perceived loss of excellence. Highest Recommendation.
